METALLIC 2023 DESIGN BUILD AWARDS
Drum Roll, Please! We Are Excited to Announce the 2023 Metallic Design Build Award Winners
It’s that time of year again — when we proudly celebrate the incredible talent and innovation of our Metallic Builders. From cutting-edge automotive showrooms and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities to massive logistics hubs and high-traffic event centers, this year’s award-winning projects highlight the versatility, creativity, and precision that define the Metallic brand and the power of pre-engineered metal building systems.
The 2023 award-winning projects are more than just structures — they are testaments to the strength and adaptability of metal building design. Each project showcases innovative solutions to complex challenges, including demanding site conditions, architectural requirements, and operational needs. The use of clear-span framing, standing seam roof panels, and insulated metal panels (IMPs) has allowed our builders to create expansive, functional spaces without sacrificing style or structural integrity.
A heartfelt thank you to all the builders who submitted their projects this year. Your work continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible with pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB). Whether it’s a large-scale distribution center or a meticulously crafted community facility, these projects demonstrate the transformative power of metal building construction.
Through thoughtful design, strategic engineering, and masterful execution, our builders have not only met but exceeded expectations — creating buildings that are stronger, more efficient, and more visually striking. From foundation to finish, these projects represent the best in metal building manufacturing and construction.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the best of the best — the 2023 Metallic Design Build Award winners.
2023 Building of the Year
APX Construction Group – Truck Center Companies (Commercial)
In Mankato, Minnesota, APX Construction Group tackled an ambitious project — combining business operations from three separate buildings into one streamlined, 96,114 sq. ft. facility. The goal was to create a more cohesive and efficient space for staff and customers while maintaining flexibility for future growth.
APX selected Double-Lok Standing Seam roof panels with an R-49 Banded Liner System for maximum insulation and energy efficiency. The exterior features Santa Fe IMP wall panels, which provide a clean, modern look while enhancing durability and weather resistance. The metal building’s framing system was designed for optimal structural support, allowing for large interior spaces without the need for intrusive columns.
The project’s location near a protected wetland posed a significant challenge. APX worked closely with environmental consultants to ensure that construction wouldn’t disrupt the ecosystem. The team also faced logistical challenges due to site access limitations, but through strategic planning and expert project management, the facility was completed on time and within budget.
The new Truck Center Companies facility now serves as a central hub for business operations, improving workflow efficiency and providing a better experience for employees and customers alike. APX’s ability to merge thoughtful design with operational efficiency makes them more than deserving of the Builder of the Year recognition.
